The existing detached garage at Cornus House is being redesigned as a multi-use creative and professional space, with architect Ken Wiesler leading the design.

The Plan

The new structure will serve multiple functions: a ground-floor workshop and creative studio for woodworking, craft work, natural perfumery, and making; an upper level professional practice space that is quiet, client-appropriate, and independently accessible; and an outdoor zone with covered patio, pizza oven, bike storage, and south garden integration.

The project is designed to work with the existing landscape — respecting the root zone of the established black walnut, integrating with the grapevine and garden structure, and creating a more intentional south entry for Airbnb guests.

Design Features

Ken Wiesler has produced two rounds of schematic drawings (September and November 2024). Key features include an enlarged studio footprint with interior stairs, an east-facing client entry, a shed dormer for upper-level headroom, a relocated pizza oven, and a bike shed for privacy screening on the north end.

Timeline

The studio conversion is planned for 2027–2028, pending design development completion, permitting, and financing.
